Job Description Part Time 15 Hours: Mondays & Tuesdays 9am-1pm,
Thursdays 5pm-9pm & Alternating Fridays 2pm-6pm/Saturdays
1pm-5pmThe Deerfield Public Library is currently seeking an
outgoing and enthusiastic Youth Services Assistant who enjoys
working with kids of all ages. Interpersonal skills, initiative,
customer service oriented, well-versed in technology with a love of
readers' and media advisory and passion for promoting lifelong
learning to join the Youth Services team. Duties include youth
service desk shifts, reader's advisory, reference, community
outreach and collection maintenance. Ideal applicants are adaptable
to new services and technologies, flexible, curious, creative,
goal-oriented, and dedicated to providing the best service to
Deerfield Patrons.Benefits:

- Provide excellent customer service to patrons and staff
in-person, via telephone, and/or online communication
- Assist patrons with choosing materials appropriate for their
stated needs
- Shelve returned items; assist with keeping the area neat and
orderly
- Assist with creating and implementing programs for outreach,
entertainment, and cultural enrichment for the community
- Create and maintain displays, lists and other avenues to
promote the collection, at the discretion of the department
manager
- Maintain a high level of knowledge of popular materials
including books and media, technologies, and trends
- Assist the department manager with selection and ordering of
new materials. This includes compiling lists of patron requests for
purchase, checking bibliographies against catalog to verify library
holdings, and preparing orders for review by the department
manager
- Participate in continuing education and technology
training
- Stay up-to-date with new media and library technology
- Observe safety rules and precautions
- Interact with other staff members in a courteous and
considerate manner
- Other duties as assignedQualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required
- A bachelor's degree related to the job responsibilities or LTA
is preferred
- Customer service experience, particularly experience working at
a service desk
- Experience with children in a school or public library
environment is preferred
- Avid reader of children's and teen literature with a wide range
of genre experience
- Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and G
Suite, social media, e-reader technology, e-resource platforms
including Overdrive, Hoopla, and Kanopy EEO Statement:
