others live up to theirs. Position Summary: The Senior Network
Engineer is responsible for the technologies used in
enterprise-wide connectivity. Connectivity solutions include LAN,
WAN, MPLS, Cellular and various Telephony solutions. He or she will
contribute to operations and projects of these technologies as well
as demonstrate continual improvement. Responsibilities:
- Assists in the design, implementation, and documentation of:
- a complex global network infrastructure connecting on-premise
systems, cloud services, corporate offices, and remote workers
- a dynamic desktop and mobile computing environment
- a VoIP telephony system (Cisco UC)
- Acts as a technical point-person for network related project
initiatives as well as all operational network service delivery,
for example: cloud-based computing initiatives, network
availability, partner connectivity, carrier connectivity, root
cause analysis, etc.
- Configures Horizon network equipment, including, but not
limited to:
- Switches & Routers
- Wireless LAN devices and systems
- Telephony Hardware and Software
- Monitors network metrics and performance indicators
- Contributes to life-cycle projects for network hardware,
software, and services, including commissioning, support &
maintenance, upgrades, and decommissioning
- Contributes to the maintenance of Horizon public domain names,
their DNS, and certificates
- Participates in an on-call rotation and ability to perform
maintenance, troubleshooting, and upgrades of all technologies
mentioned within and outside of business hours
- Interacts with all levels of Horizon staff when handling IT
Support escalations
- Continually seeks to improve operations by suggesting
enhancements and/or changes to current processes and
technologies
- Manages time efficiently in order to multitask project activity
alongside daily operational tasks
- Interfaces with Horizon partners, consultants, and vendors
- Support other IT initiatives as assigned
- Occasional travel to sites hosting Horizon infrastructure
Qualifications and Skills Required:
- 5+ years of progressive IT experience
- 5+ years of direct hands-on experience managing and configuring
network equipment including but not limited to switches, routers,
firewalls, wireless access points
- Experience supporting a 24x7x365 production environment
- Experience working with virtualized server environments such as
VMware and Nutanix
- Experience with Cisco Catalyst switches, Nexus switches, and
ISR router platforms
- Experience working with service providers (AT&T, Verizon,
etc.)
- Cisco CCNA or equivalent preferred
- Hands-on experience and/or capability working with the
following technologies and skillsets:
- Local area network technologies (switching, routing, firewalls,
wireless)
- Advanced network concepts (e.g. SD-WAN, network segmentation,
VLANs, policy-based routing, QoS)
- Network Access Control (RADIUS, 802.1X, Windows NPS, Cisco ISE,
etc.)
- Dynamic routing protocols (EIGRP, OSPF, BGP)
- VPN (Site-to-Site, Remote Access, SSL)
- Basic networking technologies such as DNS, DHCP, NTP
- Programming or scripting languages for use in automating
tasks
- Cisco VoIP and Video (CUCM, Unity Connection, CER, etc.)
