Job Description Job Description Description: Summary Manages and
facilitates patient flow through the perioperative area and ensures
the provision of high-quality patient care on a day-to-day basis.
Monitors the daily OR schedule, expediting procedures as necessary,
communicating changes/needs to other TOSC departments. Monitors the
daily assignments of the perioperative staff throughout the day.
Must be willing to travel between satellite sites, work flexible
days and hours as needed, including occasional evenings. Conducts
personnel reviews, approves timecards, oversees orientation and
provides education as needed. Functions in the perioperative team
as a staff member when situations require. Develop 6-week schedules
for all staff. Participates in QAPI studies and meetings. Job
Knowledge Assumes responsibility for daily operations of the
perioperative area for assigned shift. Reviews tentative OR
schedule 2-3 days in advance and anticipates changes in staffing
needs. Works to achieve efficiency by adding staff on higher census
days and to fill vacancies. Works to decrease staff on lower census
days or use staff in a productive manner. Monitor / assist with
lunch and break relief. Complete daily staff assignments daily for
the subsequent day, and posts appropriately. Approves staff leaving
prior to end of assigned shift after reviewing that the daily
assignment list is completed. Facilitates/expedites patient
schedule to keep cases on time as much as possible. Approves
vacation requests and monitors overtime. Works with the Brookfield
pain team to ensure appropriate staffing and coverage. Monitors any
changes in the patient schedule, e.g., delays, prepared early.
Consistently communicates these changes to OR. Notifies staff in
appropriate OR rooms of these changes. Move following procedures to
an earlier time if able. informs physicians of changes that would
impact schedule. Verifies patients have arrived at the ASC.
Monitors case start times, physician arrival times. Conducts
morning report. Keeps Pre/Post Supervisor informed of ongoing
systems problems or patient related issues. Supports administrative
decisions in a mature, objective, and open manner. Monitors
perioperative Daily Duties list. Maintain patient, employee, and
center confidentiality. Assists with daily perioperative patient
care activities. Functions in their assigned role as needed.
Communicates with second lead to ensure both are aware of all
goings-on. Meets all the requirements for staff nurse as outlined
in the RN job description Assists Supervisor with ancillary audits,
projects or other duties as designated. Reports off to the
Supervisor at the end of the day to tie up loose ends and complete
unfinished elements. Based on the OSHA guidelines for protection
against occupational exposure to Hepatitis and HIV, this position
is described as Category I. This means that this position has
exposure to blood and body fluids. Policies are in place for
Universal Precautions identifying risks and appropriate
Requirements: Education: Graduate of an accredited school of
nursing. Experience: Minimum of 1-year full time or equivalent of
perioperative nursing experience. Functions independently at TOSC.
Licensure: Current state of Wisconsin license in nursing.
Certifications : BLS, ACLS, and PALS Skills: Possesses leadership
qualities and good professional communication skills. Understands
team-based management concept and interpersonal management skills.
Collaborates effectively with Pre/Post Supervisor and other lead
personnel to achieve consistent and positive perioperative team
relationships, acting as a united front. Possesses knowledge of all
equipment used in the delivery of patient care in the perioperative
area. Essential Functions Maintains open and positive lines of
communication. Utilizes a multi-disciplinary communicative approach
for maintaining and improving patient care. Communicates
appropriately: Utilizes proper chain of command Always maintains
emotional control and diplomacy Using verbal and non-verbal
communication in a pleasant, professional manner. Communicates only
factual information to employees, patients and physicians to avoid
misunderstandings and undue stress.
