Job Description:
This Sr Mgr, Program Management/Product Owner role is responsible for leading program delivery teams within Payments Services - Strategic Projects. Reporting to the VP of Strategic Projects, this role provides program management leadership for the delivery of a modernized fraud monitoring solution for the Network.
Provides overall management and thought leadership to drive and monitor execution of planned deliverables. Negotiates and influences others across multiple workstreams. Builds and maintains solid relationships with internal and external partners. Develops and coaches team to effectively manage complex program activities and delivers solutions to address challenging problems. The individual in this role may manage employees and/or contractors.
What You'll Do



  • Coordinate centralization of planned deliverables and monitor progress against timelines


  • Actively engage with all workstreams to ensure issues/blockers are timely raised and resolutions are reached with minimal impact to overall timeline; coordinate and lead program meetings at various levels of audience; document decisions, maintain RAID log, escalate issues and blockers appropriately


  • Work closely with Business Units such as Business Technology to ensure quality of system development efforts


  • Lead the development of the product family roadmap in partnership with the Business Director and Product Owner(s), ensuring alignment and dependencies are managed across the product teams.


  • Provide mentoring, fills in the business and/or technical knowledge gaps, etc.


  • Negotiate and influence others across shared services and product teams across product families.


  • Develops and coaches' teams to be able to identify, manage, and escalate risk, and effectively manage risk within the teams you oversee.


    How You'll Do It


    • Develops product family vision and roadmap - ensures alignment with Business Director and POs in same product family. Partners with Business Director and POs developing, maintaining, and presenting the vision and overarching product roadmap to support business unit goals.


    • Understands consumer and market needs and industry/competitive trends to identify market opportunities to drive values. Establishes Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) for value creation and efficiency for the product family and support POs in translating OKRs to the product teams. Establishes product Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) to achieve, communicate priorities, decide which actions to take, prioritize features, and help build out long term strategies. Defines product family MVPs, prioritizing and accepting priorities in partnership with POs and architects.


    • Defines functional and non-functional product requirements; ensuring completeness, integral and consistent; source of requirements for product family. When applicable, manage product family requirements (i.e., functional and non-functional requirements) and objectives with external partners (e.g., Apple, WIPRO, etc.) Ensures product features and processes align with applicable Discover compliance and risk management standards.


    • Manages team of direct reports, responsible for people development and performance management, hiring and building team, coaching and mentoring


    • Creates prototypes (e.g., MVPs, POC, etc.) based on customer feedback to test, learn, and validate ideas before committing to larger scale development. Synchronizes and aligns with Product Family POs on prioritization and delivery to maximize Product Family Value.


    • Builds a culture of accountability and ownership by empowering the product family and setting clear expectations. Coaches product teams to eliminate risks and wastes, and to foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and learning.


      Qualifications You'll Need
      The Basics


      • Bachelor's Degree in Business or related field


      • 8+ years of experience with Product, Business, Technical, or related


      • In lieu of a degree, 10+ years of experience with Product, Business, Technical, or related


        Bonus Points If You Have


        • 2+ years of People Management experience


        • Experience managing large scale projects/programs


        • Strong technical skills while still having strong business acumen


        • Independent/Self-starter


        • Strong thought leadership/people leadership

          Compensation:
          The base pay for this position generally ranges between $140,000.00 to $196,400.00. Additional incentives may be provided as part of a market competitive total compensation package. Factors, such as but not limited to, geographical location, relevant experience, education, and skill level may impact the pay for this position.
