Job Description Job Description Cutter Grinder Pay: $21-24/hr Shift: 1st and 2nd Job Description As a Cutter Grinder, you will perform precision smoothing, sharpening, polishing, or grinding of cutting tools, including drills, reamers, end mills, slab mills, and slotting cutters made of high-speed steel (HSS) and solid carbide. You will also make or modify cutting tools from blueprints or written instructions, and modify tool holders and boring bars. Responsibilities Set up and operate all departmental equipment to recondition standard tooling and make or modify special tools. Set up and operate grinding machines to grind industrial cutting tools. Select and mount grinding wheels on machines, according to specifications, using hand tools and knowledge of abrasives and grinding procedures. Inspect, feel, and measure work pieces to ensure that surfaces and dimensions meet specifications. Perform basic maintenance, such as cleaning and lubricating machine parts. Dress grinding wheels according to specifications. Monitor machine operations to determine whether adjustments are necessary and stop machines when problems occur. Remove and replace worn or broken machine parts using hand tools. File or finish surfaces of work pieces using prescribed hand tools. Turn valves to direct flow of coolant against cutting wheels and work pieces during grinding. Compute numbers, widths, and angles of cutting tools, using micrometers, scales, and gauges, and adjust tools to produce specified cuts. Inspect cutting tools to detect defects, assess wear, and verify specifications using micrometers and loupes. Attach work pieces to grinding machines. Program CNC machines. Essential Skills 2 to 4 years of experience in CNC operation. Full competency in reading blueprints. Proficiency in using inspection equipment, including precise measuring tools. Ability to troubleshoot, determining causes of operating errors and deciding solutions. Critical thinking skills for identifying strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions. Ability to think creatively, make decisions, and solve problems. Repairing machines or systems using the needed tools. Effective communication and cooperation with supervisors and peers. Additional Skills & Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Some college or trade school preferred. 0-2 years of experience required in the field or a related field. 2-4 years of experience preferred. Work Environment The work environment requires employees to regularly speak and understand English, stand, walk, sit, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. Employees are required to use computers and other equipment. The environment has good working conditions, although it may be slightly dirty or involve occasional exposure to elements. Work is generally performed during traditional working hours from Monday to Friday, with potential changes to include weekends or evenings. Employees frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The facility includes 7 CNC machines with 2 people per shift. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Carol Stream, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
